Types of data recovery service we perform
We recover data from every conceivable storage device. If it holds data, we can retrieve it! Whether it’s a physical or logical issue, we have the expertise to handle it. In many cases there exists both physical and logical issues requiring extremely delicate handling of your storage device. For a more comprehensive list of our services, please visit our data recovery services page.
Physical data recovery
Unfortunately, hard drives are not made to last forever. With continued use, they begin to wear out and the parts become more susceptible to breakage. Accidents also happen—a dropped hard drive can mean lost data. In either case, a physical recovery is necessary.
Physical damage to your drive typically results in some data loss, but our team of experts has a very high success rate with these cases. We’ve performed data recovery on thousands of physically failed drives. Using our proprietary hardware tools and knowledge, we can assess the condition of your drive and make the necessary repairs.
Physical data recovery can be the most complex of recoveries as it requires cleanroom attention. Your drive is taken apart in our data recovery lab, and defective parts are replaced. Even after your drive is reassembled it still may require a logical recovery if the file system is damaged.
Repairing a damaged printed circuit board (PCB) is another potential element of a physical recovery. We are often approached by customers who have attempted to do this on their own. Repairing a damaged PCB may have worked with older models, but newer drives do not support this. We strongly advise against trying to repair a damaged PCB, as it can cause additional corruption to the drive. Replacing the donor board with an exact match is only a small portion of the process.
A firmware transfer from the previous board to the new one is required, and if the firmware chip is damaged it presents a whole new set of issues that must be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. The firmware chip contains information about the drive’s configuration. If it is not matched, irregular spin cycles will result and potentially lead to a severe head crash. If this happens, your chances of retrieving the data will be significantly diminished.
ISO 4 Class 100 Cleanroom for Data Recovery Service
Proven Data Recovery operates an ISO 4 Class 100 cleanroom for data recovery. Your drive will be opened in this state-of-the-art, dust- and static-free environment. If this were to be attempted in a non-cleanroom environment, you run the risk of further damaging the drive resulting in irreversible data loss. This can happen when even a single dust particle lands on the platter or read / write heads.
If you know you have a physical data recovery scenario on your hands, do your research. Make sure you choose a company that operates an ISO 4 class 100 cleanroom for the best possible chances of successfully retrieving your data.
Logical data recovery
If your device is not booting despite being in good physical shape and mechanically stable, there is a good chance that a logical recovery is necessary. When your file system is corrupted due to a virus, software update, deleted file or bad sectors, a custom solution is often required. It is easy for anyone to run software in an attempt to recover files, but this method can potentially cause further damage to the device and may not have good results. Proven Data Recovery utilizes proprietary software and proven methods to retrieve data from a corrupted partition or file system.
Sometimes data is not fully recoverable using software alone. Possessing knowledge of different file systems and structures is vital to recovering your data. We use a process known as data carving to recover parts of damaged files.
Remember, any time anyone without knowledge of each file system tries to rescue a corrupt drive or file system, you risk losing the data permanently. This is a risk you take by choosing the wrong data recovery company.
We perform data recovery on a wide range of disk file systems
PC, Mac, or Linux users have disk file systems that vary, so a different approach is required for each one. We can recover any file system including:
Deleted file Recovery
Sometimes you may delete a file believing it was already backed up, only to realize later it was not. When you first realize that you’ve deleted a file, it is imperative that you discontinue all use of your computer as you may overwrite the deleted data.
Deleted file recovery is very common request we receive and is pretty straight forward for our experienced data recovery engineers. We can look into your current file system and get a good idea if the file will be recoverable through our free data recovery evaluation. If there is any overwritten data, data corruption may have already taken place and we will have to handle this on a case-by-case basis depending on your configuration.
Overwritten data recovery
Overwritten data can be difficult to deal with since it is replaced with new data. In many cases, the data you hope to retrieve is gone or severely corrupted and you may only be able to retrieve portions of it. We offer proprietary tools and methods not available to the public for use in these cases, which often require a custom solution. Due to the unfortunate nature of overwritten data, it may not always be recoverable. For that reason, we do not charge you for unrecoverable data.
Your data, your choice – Choose your data recovery service provider wisely!
Smart data recovery decisions ultimately boil down to you. Only you can decide to be an informed consumer by doing the necessary research when it comes down to choosing the right data recovery company. Ideally, you will plan ahead and have this done before an emergency arises. If you have any questions feel free to contact us by submitting a case, call us toll free 877-364-5161, or initiate a live chat in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. Our Clients Say it Best(Taken from 3rd Party Sites)
- Michael Keller rated Proven Data Recovery 5 stars on July 24, 2014. I'd like to take time to personally thank Proven Data Recovery for literally saving our business. 5 jobs were in jeopardy over a server crash that contained all of our work orders and previous billings. I called them in a very panicked state and they patiently listened to my needs and reassured me that they would be able to recover the data based on the description I gave over the phone. Not only did they recover the data but they did so within 24 hours with minimal down time for our business. We cannot thank them enough. It was a pleasure to do business with them and recommend them to anyone who requires data recovery!
